A little local advice on Mediterranean dining in Dubai

If you’re planning to explore Mediterranean food around Dubai, try to look beyond the obvious chains. Some of my best meals came from smaller spots around Satwa and Jumeirah with simple menus and great homestyle cooking. Also, a lot of Mediterranean restaurants here tweak dishes slightly to fit local tastes, so don’t hesitate to ask what’s their signature or ‘off-menu’ special.

One personal favorite is Bystro in Al Wasl,it nails fresh mezze and has a laid-back vibe that’s hard to beat. Oh, and try visiting during a weekday evening to avoid the noise rush but still get the full vibe. Trust me, the food tastes better when you’re not elbow-to-elbow with a crowded crowd.
